Matthew 2:13-15
(The Flight Into Egypt)
- v15. I now know why Herod didn't do the things that any person with common sense would do. He was fulfilling the prophecy of "Out of Egypt I called my Son".
Matthew 2:16-18
(Massacre of the Innocents)
- v18. Yet again Herod was fulfilling prophecy.
Matthew 2:19-23
(The Home in Nazareth)
- v23. This time, Joseph was fulfilling prophecy. All the events that happened had to happen the way they happened because of the need to fulfill prophecy and show to the Jews that Jesus was indeed the Messiah!
Isn't it interesting to note that in v.13, 20, 21, 3 times the word "tenderly" is mentioned in the Amplified Bible.
-v13 "Get Up! [Tenderly] take unto you the young Child and His mother and flee to Egypt..."
-v20 "Rise, [tenderly] take unto you the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel..."
-v21 "The awoke and arose and [tenderly] took the Child and His mother..."
Despite death breathing down their necks and hunting them down, God is STILL at rest!
